Back in 2015 I worked as a Project Manager at a digital advertising company in Seattle.  

While at the job I started an ecommerce store selling Steampunk products (which I had no personal interest or experience in… just seemed like a cool untapped niche).

Using the power of Facebook ads and email marketing… I was able to scale that tiny niche store to 7-figures+ in sales… and became one of the top three online retailers of Steampunk products. 

That weird niche store allowed me to quit my corporate job and gave me an A-Zed education in audience targeting, direct response marketing, copywriting, paid advertising, and email marketing.

I eventually ended up selling that store.

Then I came up with the bright idea of using my newfound skills and roughly $120k of my savings to launch my own branded line of brain health supplements.

I invested in 6000 bottles of custom supplements that were $11.70 a pop… joined two mastermind programs that were $25k and $10k... and put another $10-15k in branding and advertising.

And when it finally launched....

It bombed...

My failed supplement product "Mindshield".

Don't let that smile fool you.  It failed miserably.

I ended up selling all the bottles but at a HUGE loss and learned a tough lesson.

Don’t sink 6-figures of capital into an unproven business idea lol.  

So naturally after this I was hurting...

I had just spent 7 months getting my ass kicked, confidence was at an all-time low, gun-shy of doing any kind of work, and although I needed cash fast… it was tough for me to get up and go again.

After a couple months moping around feeling sorry for myself… I realized I had all these skills in my back pocket that could help businesses with lead generation and customer acquisition.

I thought... 

“Get yo sh*t together Sean... use it or lose it!" 

“...you don’t want to go back to corporate do you?”  

So I got off my ass and began reaching out to local businesses… home remodelers, dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons… and locked down a few clients helping them get more customers.

In the process of getting these local business clients I developed a prospecting system using LinkedIn and email that was so effective… I had to turn clients away because I couldn’t handle fulfillment. 

Also had dozens of peers reaching out to me asking how they could get this system installed in their business which told me that...

I was onto something GOOD

And thus… Growth Response was born.

I shifted focus away from local businesses and started pitching our prospecting system to B2B internet companies. Software-as-a-Service, advertising/marketing agencies, and design firms.

I built a team of virtual assistants to help with prospecting, operations, and client fulfillment.

And the business took off. (We went from 0-37k+/mo within just a few months.)

For the 2+ years since then we’ve offered nothing but our prospecting system which has been incredible.

We've been able to generate well over 8-figures in sales revenue between my business and clients. 

And I've been able to work with some insanely smart, driven, and inspiring entrepreneurs as clients… many of whom I consider personal friends now.

Plus...

I'm able to live a pretty laid-back lifestyle

Surfing w/fam, trips to Aussie land and Japan, golfing at Bandon Dunes, raging in Vegas, hanging out with Jesse Itzler, Coachella
No... I'm not a multi-millionaire lambo broseph with a mansion and 13 Rolex watches.

But I'm able to live life on my terms.

Traveling whenever and wherever I want (7 different countries and 23 different places in the last 2 years)... paying off all of my $56k in student loan debt... working only 10-20 hours or so per week while generating multiple 6-figures in my business... and networking+learning from other super successful entrepreneurs.

I used my failures and learnings to launch an education company showing new entrepreneurs how to start and scale a profitable online service business the right way.

Teaching them all the fundamentals of growing a business from market selection, offer creation, copywriting, client acquisition, client fulfillment, systems, building a team, and scaling. 

Within a few short months off the back of copywriting, paid ads, and email marketing… we’ve been able to bring that education company to multiple 6-figures per year as well.

And I have to admit, I've been lucky to have great teachers along the way...

From a young age my grandpa drilled an important lesson into my head...

My grandpa Gordon... a former banker who used dividend stock investing to retire early and pocket millions... taught me from a young age that:

"If you ever want to be rich you need to find a way to make money while you sleep.  But before you make money while you sleep, you need to learn to make a lot of money while you're awake... 

...and no, you can't have any of my money until I'm dead!"  (Ps- he's still alive and kickin).

And because of this I've learned to always be resourceful.  

To find leverage and be able to produce more with less work. 

This has been especially lethal in business.
