 Make Sure You Know These 3 Crucial Components...

Alice: "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
Cheshire Cat: "That depends a good deal on where you want to get to."
Alice: "I don't much care where."
Cheshire Cat: "Then it doesn't much matter which way you go."
Alice: "...so long as I get somewhere."
Cheshire Cat: "Oh, you're sure to do that, if only you walk long enough."
So goes the famous quote from Alice In Wonderland. 

And it applies to most people when they write their emails.

They have no clue who they're sending to, what they're emailing about, and why their reader should care.

Truth is... if the way you want to go is "making more sales every time you hit the send button"... there are three things you must know before you sit down and type a single letter. 

I call them the "3Ws". And I have it on a post-it stuck to my computer monitor so that I never forget to do it before writing an email.

If you can get into the habit of mapping out the 3Ws before you write any email... I can almost guarantee you will see more sales every time you hit the send button.

So if you're ready, saddle up and let's ride to the first W...

#1: 
The "Who"

You need to clearly know the target market you're emailing.  

This is crucial if you have multiple different markets on your list.

For example...

I have one list of beginner entrepreneurs. People who are interested in starting an online business... but still learning the ropes of marketing, sales, and entrepreneurship. They might have a dayjob or be in college. 

I have another list of 6-7 figure entrepreneurs. People who have established businesses and are looking to scale up. Who are full-time, have capital to invest in growth, and are looking for someone to help them in a certain area (like *cough cough* email marketing...)

Now... do you think the same email would apply to both markets?

It's possible.  

But I would risk message dilution and being irrelevant. And when you're irrelevant... ain't no chance you're making sales.

So that's the first thing.

Know "Who" it is that you're targeting.  

Create a "Dream Customer Profile" so you don't have to think about this every time you email.  

Once you know exactly who you're emailing, you need to know...

#2: 
The "Why"

The purpose of your email.

Why are you emailing them? Why should they care?  

Answer these questions. And it NEEDS to be about "them".  

Here's a good example:

"The purpose of my email today is to show my market how to write a curiosity based subject line. They should care because if they use this in their business, they will have more people opening their emails and therefore more people buying."

See how it's all about the market and how it benefits them?

Here's a bad example:

"The purpose of my email today is to show my market how many Lamborghinis I have. They should care because I want people to see how much of a boss hoss I am and how much money I have."

Lol... jokes aside, I see quite a few emails like that. All about the sender, nothing to benefit the reader. 

So don't make that mistake. It's an easy one to slip up on.

Once you're clear on why the reader should care, you need to know...

#3: 
The "What"

Real simple.  

Just ask yourself... what do you want them to do next? 

What action should they take after reading your email? 

This will influence the CTA you use.

For example...

Should they click a link and go to a salespage? Watch a video? Sign up for a webinar? Read a blog post? Download a PDF? 

Now... my recommendation is to go for the sale if it makes sense. Or at least lead them down that path. And if you're writing solid emails, there shouldn't be any issue with feeling "spammy" or "pushy" here.

However it doesn't always work out that way. So at the very least, get clear on what action you want them to take after reading your email.

Now that you know the 3Ws, let me show you a real-life example in action...

Real-Life Example Of The 3Ws

This is for an email I wrote up yesterday to my beginner entrepreneur list. 

#1 Who - Newbie/beginner entrepreneurs looking to start an online business selling digital services.

#2 Why - The purpose of my email is to share three high potential niches that they can still target during COVID-19. They should care because this will save them time from "guessing" and picking an unprofitable niche. 

#3 What - I want them to click a link that takes them to a sales page for my "Six Figure Drop Servicing" ebook which teaches them how to start a profitable online business selling digital services.

Took me about 2 minutes to whip this up.

That doesn't sound too hard, does it? 

So let's do a quick wrap up of what you learned.

Wrapping It Up

You just discovered the 3 components you must know before writing any email.

I call it the 3Ws and it consists of:

#1 The "Who" - Who is the target market you're emailing?

#2 The "Why" - Why are you emailing? Why should they care?

#3 The "What" - What do you want them to do next?

Put it on a post-it. Hang it up somewhere you can see it so you never forget. And make sure you know these 3Ws before writing any of your emails. 

If you apply this to your future emails, you WILL start to see the sales piling up.
